Facebook Brings News Block Back In Australia

Facebook today updated a post that they will restore their news block to the platform in Australia, after the Australia government agreed to “a number of changes and guarantees that address Facebook’s core concerns”

At an earlier time, Australian proposed a bill that requires Facebook to pay publishers for content shared on their platforms. To response to the government’s bill, the social-networking giant decided to pull its news off shelves for the bargaining code. After that, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Australia’s treasurer Josh Frydenberg took a long discussion and finally reach a consensus that allows Facebook to support the publishers they choose to, including small and local publishers.

Today, William Easton, Facebook’s managing director of Australia and New Zealand, updated a post which said that they “satisfied that the Australian government has agreed to a number of changes and guarantees that address our core concerns”.
